Driving Etiquette and Safety Tips

Drive safe

Whenever you’re driving in New York, you’re bound to run into several different types of bothersome drivers–from the guy who races to the red light to the old lady who should have stopped driving ten years ago–it can be difficult to remain calm and keep safe on the road. So, we’ve compiled a list of driving etiquette and safety tips. At North Shore Honda near Long Island, we’ve got our customers’ best interest in mind!

Helping out Long Island Area Drivers

Since you can’t control other drivers on the road, you just have to do your best! Here’s what you need to know:

  • Maintain a safe following distance. Not only is tailgating unsafe, it’s also a bit disrespectful. Give other drivers their space (even if they’re moving a bit too slow).
  • Don’t cruise in the passing lane. Though the 2018 Honda Accord EX Sedan is the perfect vehicle for cruising–comfortable and large–it’s just not okay to cruise in the passing lane. It’s for passing. Let’s keep it that way.
  • Monitor the use of your high beams. High beams can be very distracting and dangerous to other drivers on the road; please only use these on roads that are not adequately lit (when other vehicles are not approaching).
  • Always use your turn signals. Turn signals are not a suggestion. The driver behind you needs to know you’re going to slow down and/or turn.
  • Avoid distracted driving. If your texting, eating or applying make-up, you’re driving distracted. Put down the French fries. Text your mom later. Put your make-up on when you arrive at your destination.

If you follow these simple driving etiquette and safety tips, you’ll be sure to protect yourself as much as possible...and avoid aggravating other drivers. If you have any questions, feel free to contact North Shore Honda near Long Island at (877) 860-5112.
